Matte painting is a technique used in VFX (visual effects) to create realistic sets or environments that are integrated into filmed scenes. This method involves painting images (in 2D or 3D) that will serve as backgrounds, typically for scenes that cannot be filmed in the real world due to technical, geographical, or budgetary constraints. Matte paintings are often used to depict vast landscapes, imposing architectures, or fictional elements.
