Considered an ordinary immigrant, Catherine de Medicis, then a teenage orphan, was married into the 16th century French court to bring a fortune in dowry and produce numerous heirs. But she will quickly discover that her husband is in love with an older woman, that her dowry is not paid and that she is unable to conceive a child. Yet, relying only on her intelligence and determination, she manages to keep her marriage afloat and to master, better than anyone, the blood sport that is the monarchy for 50 years.

The Serpent Queen or Catherine de Medicis, the serpent queen in Quebec is an American historical television series, created by Justin Haythe and broadcast since 2022 on the Starz channel in the United States and on Canal+ in France.

This is the adaptation of the British novel Catherine de Medicis: Renaissance Queen of France by Leonie Frieda (2004).
